CONSTANZA MACRAS/

DORKY PARK

In 2003, with the arrival of Jared Gradinger, Jill Emerson and old time collaborator musician Claus Erbskorn, Macras founded DORKYPARK after the production of MIR 3: Endurance. The three of them became the core members that have been part of all of the company productions during the following years as well as assisting Macras in workshops.

The first piece realized by the company in summer 2003 was Back to the Present integrated into a derelict early 20th century department store, the Kaufhaus Jandorf, in the middle of Berlin. Almost four hours long, Back to the Present was presented to audiences throughout the house, including two bars and a tea salon. Joining the cast were Knut Berger, Diane Busutill, Maike Moeller, Arik Hayut, Rahel Savoldelli, Nir De-Volff, Yeri Anarika Vargas Sanchez among others, and Dramaturg Carmen Mehnert.

Another project in 2003 was Scratch Neukoelln, one of the first productions of the newly founded Hebbel am Ufer. Scratch Neukoelln integrates her company with ten pre-teen kids, primarily from recently immigrated families living in Neukoelln, Berlin.

In 2004, after the success of the site-specific performance in the old department store Kaufhaus Jandorf, a stage version of Back to the Present was the premier collaboration with the Schaubuehne am Lehniner Platz.

In 2005, CONSTANZA MACRAS|DORKYPARK made the project Big in Bombay co-produced with Berliner Festspiele and Schaubuehne am Lehniner Platz and in 2006, Sure, shall we talk about it? in the Hebbel am Ufer, where Gail Skrela and Hyoung-Min Kim joined the company.

In 2007, I'm not the only one Part 1 and 2 premiered at Volksbuehne im Prater. Brickland also premiered at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, a piece about “gated communities”, guarded settlements which do not yet exist in Germany, but do in countries such as the U.S.A. and in South America where there is a great gap between rich and poor.

CONSTANZA MACRAS|DORKYPARK is a company that integrates dancers, actors and musicians with performers that range from 4 years old to 72, combining text, live music, dance and video. The company works regularly with Berlin venues like Hebbel am Ufer, Schaubuehne am Lehniner Platz and Volksbuehne am Rosa-Luxemburg Platz Berlin and with co-producers like Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, Le Maillon Strasbourg, Schauspielhaus Wien and Fondazione Musica Per Roma.
